One Hull of an idea - Houses on floating basements
Floating concrete basements
A community of houses in Holland built to float like ships could provide the answer to the problem of flooding in the UK. This is the opening line to an article published in the NCE New Concrete Engineering. This project occurred in 2006 but is left as a news item due to the specialist nature of this project. This was reported on earlier in Innovation & Research Focus and shows the open concrete basements prior to the erection of the houses.
