CASE STUDY 1
FOAMGLAS® is the ideal insulation for underground concrete or masonry basement walls where moisture and high compressive loads will occur. The insulation can be applied directly to water resistant concrete wall or bonded to a waterproof tanking membrane. FOAMGLAS® is totally impervious to water and water vapour will not be affected by ground moisture, and when installed using a FOAMGLAS® PC56 water resistant adhesive between the joints, forms a secondary water resistant envelope around the basement.
FOAMGLAS® does not deteriorate with age ensuring that the insulation values remain constant. The insulation is rigid and dimensionally stable and does not shrink or warp with the effects of climatic variants. It’s coefficient of expansion is similar to concrete and there is no danger of the joints between the boards opening up.
The boards or slabs are normally installed with a protection board to avoid damaging the surface of the insulation during back filling.
Products suitable for use in this application are :
FOAMGLAS® Boards : Wallboard / ReadyBoard
FOAMGLAS® Slabs : W + F / T4
FOAMGLAS® Boards are applied to the underground wall or a retaining wall by spot-bonding, or fully adhered with closely butted staggered joints sealed with a vapour resistant FOAMGLAS® PC adhesive.
FOAMGLAS® Slabs are applied fully bonded to the wall with closely butted staggered joints sealed with a vapour resistant FOAMGLAS® PC adhesive. In addition FOAMGLAS® slabs are protected by a bituminous surface coat applied by float and buttering to a frost penetration depth.
